Hey! 

I´m kicking off the week with Beirut and their song Santa Fe. Something about this song has a feel of summer´s end to it, which is perfect! Even though I will be sad to say goodbye to summer, my favorite season is drawing ever closer and I am looking forward to dressing up in layers and drinking hot tea.

Daisy

Daisies are my all time favorite flowers. Much to my joy 
I´ve been seeing a lot of daisy printed items this season (especially at Topshop). Here are some of my favorite pieces I´ve come across this summer.

These trousers from Asos are definitely on my shopping list! They will be a great way to perk up my wardrobe this coming winter, or of course to be worn the remainder of this summer (the weather here in Iceland is more reminiscent of September rather than July).

I really like the clothes from Oasis

They always have such cute and ladylike pieces. 

I have recently fallen in love with  the dungaree jumpsuits that have been in style this season. So to combine my love of jumpsuits and daisies,this one would be perfect! I also really love

this daisy jumpsuit from River Island.Now the question is: which one should I choose? 

I really like these cute daisy flats  (I could definitely stand to own more flat shoes, seeing that I have countless pairs of heels, but just one pair of flats, which are about to fall apart).

Last but not least, I really love this beautiful vintage fascinator hat. Actually I kind of lost my breath a little when I saw it over at Modcloth, but unfortunately it had already been sold.Oh well..

Foodie Friday : Summer lovin

I can be very picky when it comes to desserts, after all they are my passion. In the winter I tend to go for comfort foods: warm chocolate cakes and apple pies, basically any creamy, chocolatey dessert. But in the summer months I usually go for lighter, fruit based desserts that go perfectly with the weather (although the weather hasn´t been especially summery here in Iceland) as well  as most of the fruits used are in season.

On my vacation in England this spring I ate at Prét a manger,a British fast food chain with healthy, locally sourced ingredients (it´s a shame I don´t live in England , but I would consider moving there for the amazing fresh food at Prét alone). One fateful lunchtime I decided to grab a lemon cheesecake for dessert. The result was  one of the best desserts I have ever tasted. Ever since I have not been able to stop thinking about it and considering ways how I could recreate this wonderful flavor feast in my own kitchen. Finally I´ve found a  recipe that might come close to what I tasted at Prét, although I would trade in the graham crackers for gingersnap cookies to get an extra special flavor. I´m keeping my fingers crossed that this will work. I need this cheesecake in my life!

 David Lebovitz´s blog is one of the few that I follow religiously. I love his recipes and the tales of life in Paris ( where I too wish I would live). His recipe for the  Cherry mess  is exactly how I would envision a summer dessert.  His take on this British dessert  recipe includes beautiful cherries, meringue pieces, whipped cream and candied almonds. Sounds dangerously good. I think this dessert would be good with a little amaretto poured over it, to make it extra special.

Another one of his summery recipes I´ve been wanting to try for a while now is the Grapefruit Campari sorbet.  Campari is my all time favorite drink so any dessert (or drink) involving Campari wins me over.

At my first job, one of the finest bakeries in Reykjavík, I remember that every summer we would sell these adorable (and yummy) strawberry tartlets, just like I used to eat in in my grandparents backyard in France, after we had all shared a good meal. Having fond memories connected to this fine dessert I would have to say that this is my favorite summer dessert and I will definitely be making my variation of these at some point this summer!

Summer reading

 There are few things  greater than reading a good book. To me a book is like an airplane ticket to freedom. Because a really good story has endless possibilities of adventure. I love a story I can fully and wholeheartedly immerse myself in and be swept of my feet into an adventure. That´s why summer is my favorite season of the year since I have time to read the books that I want. Here are a few that I want to finish by the end of summer. ..

1. What I did on my holiday

Read about it on Amazon and it looks like a funny one

2. Death comes to Pemberley 

I am a sucker for anything Jane Austen, although this book is only inspired by her novel Pride and prejudice, written by P.D. James 

3.Lean in 

Usually I´m not all that interested in self help books, but I am kind of excited about reading this one!

4. A moveable feast 

 

I am beginning to like Hemingway more and more. His stories intrigue me, especially this one which is supposedly based on his time spent in Paris ( We all know how much I  LOVE Paris!)

Happiness

Hey hey, 

Today, March 20th has been declared International happiness day by the United Nations. This is the world´s first international happiness day. I think this is such a wonderful idea. There are so many difficult things in life, and the world media almost exclusively brings us news of the horrible, sad things that are happening around the world. Therefor it is wonderful to be able to take a moment and even better to have a whole day to focus on the good things. The things that make us happy. 

Happiness to me is in the little things. The silver linings. You can always draw something positive out of every situation. Even if it is just something very small. I just have to believe it. 

so to honor this day, here are a few things making me happy these days....

......   The end of winter. It is such an amazing feeling being up at 8 am and the sun is already up. which leads me to the next one..

....being finally able to use sunglasses, not only do they shield my eyes from the sun but I somehow feel instantly more beautiful when I wear them.

.... floral dresses. 

......My wonderful friends. Meeting up for lunch or coffee instantly makes an ordinary day feel special. 

.......thoughts of summer. Having something to look forward to can bring you happiness. I look forward to summer. To the end of the school year. I look forward to long summer days. And I really look forward to my vacation in Greece and seeing my family in France. And that makes me happy.

Book club

Hey!
I´m still alive!!
I´ve been a little uninspired for the past couple of weeks.That´s all about to get better, now that summer is finally here. it feels like everything is finally coming to life again. The weather has been wonderful here in Iceland and people are generally happier and more positive. I have some exciting plans for the blog this summer that I hope to be able to see through. But for now you should meet my newest "baby". This wonderfully quirky book clutch from Asos is on it´s way into my arms.

Reminds me of the Catcher in the Rye book clutch Michelle Williams carried at the Independent Spirit Awards. This outfit looks amazing on her.

Current obsession : Tokyomilk

Sorry about my absence from the blog the past few days.
I was a bit busy with school this past week, had my big final exam in Icelandic literature( I´m keeping my fingers  crossed that I passed!!!). Now I´m off for the whole summer, so I´ve got no excuse not to blog!
I promise I´m going to get better at this, just bare with me.
The weather here in Iceland is pretty amazing at the moment  (thankfully so after a very cold and snowy april month), even though the sun is not out every day I can feel it getting pretty warm, so maybe it´s time to swap my  winter jacket for something lighter ( yes! that was an excuse to shop)
I passed by my favourite shop, Kisan on my way to work today. This shop is amazing and they have such wonderful things there, such as Annick Goutal perfumes, all kinds of books, beautiful jewllery and clothing. This store is perfect for buying gifts.
But the thing that caught my eye today were the  solid perfumes and lip balms from the label Tokyomilk
I really really like solid perfumes, because I feel they stay on longer than the spray on perfumes, and I especially like the beautiful illustrations on the product packaging, so pretty !
In addition to cosmetics, Tokyomilk also offer a range of candles and stationary, I reccomend you check out their website ( link above).

I want to do an outfit post, as I´ve found so many  beautiful things in the second hand shops around Reykjavík. Looking forward to that, but first I have to get my camera fixed

Gleðilegt sumar?

Í dag var víst sumardagurinn fyrsti, og því við hæfi að óska öllum til hamingju. Það lítur reyndar alls ekki út fyrir að vera komið sumar þegar maður lítur út um gluggann, rok og rigning. Þetta veður minnir meira á haustið heldur en vor. Misstum við kannski af sumrinu?
Jæja krossleggjum fingur og vonum að sólin og góða veðrið komi bráðum

Today was the first summersday in Iceland, so congrats those of you in Iceland ( and  also to every one else of course). Still, when you look out the window and see the weather here right now, the last thing you think about is summer. Feels more like autumn to me with all the wind and rain. Maybe we just missed the summer. Everybody! there will be no summer in Iceland this year!
Lets cross our fingers and hope the good weather is on the way.

Summer, where art thou?

Halló halló
Nú vil ég endilega að sumarið fari að láta á sér kræla á Íslandi. Farin að dreyma um grillpartí og matarboð úti í garði og yndislega bjartar og hlýjar sumarnætur. Svo er ekki verra að geta hlakkað til þess að fara í utanlandsferð eftir tæpan mánuð. Langar svo mikið í bikini sem er hátt í mittið, en ég finn ekkert í flottu mynstri sem mig langar í. Þið megið endilega hjálpa mér að finna draumabikiniið mitt.
Var að hugsa um að gera "outfit" post bráðum (það er að segja þegar myndavélin mín er komin í lag), með yndislegu, hálfgegnsæju rauðu maxi pilsi sem ég fékk í Spútnik. Ég á örugglega eftir að nota það í tætlur í sumar. Annars vil ég endilega koma því á framfæri  við ykkur að ég verð með bás í Kolaportinu á laugardaginn, þar sem ég mun selja ýmsar gersemar úr fataskápnum mínum. Endilega mætið og nælið ykkur í eitthvað flott fyrir páskana! Hér er event á facebook.

I can´t wait for the summer to finally reach Iceland, I´ve had enough with rain ,wind and snow ( yes , snow! In april!). I am already planning all the barbeques, garden dinner partys and looking forward to bright and warm summer nights.These days I am lusting after a high wasted bikini in a beautiful pattern, for my vacation to Spain. Unfortunatly I can't seem to find one anywhere. If you find one in a beautiful print  help is appreciated :) I am thinking about doing my first outfit post soon. I just got this amazing sheer red maxi skirt in Spútnik, a local second hand store in Reykjavík , Iceland. I just know I am going to live in that skirt for the whole summer ( if it ever decides to arrive).
For those of you currently located in Iceland, I will be at Kolaportið flea market on saturday, selling some of my wardrobe gems.
