Belt it!

Hi guys
I had a wonderful Christmas and I hope you did too.
I absolutely  love belts and I wear them with absolutely everything: over  skirts, sweaters and dresses... A couple weeks ago I had a cozy lazy evening with my family, good food and good television which ended with a little imaginary shopping online. Checked ASOS and realized, that in addition to stocking beautiful clothes and shoes they have amazing accessories and especially belts. Here are some pretty ones I found:

Love love love this last one, and the multi buckle belt!  Maybe I´ll add them to my birthday  wish list.

About Face

Happy Friday you guys!

Life couldn´t  be better right now, no more exams, Christmas is almost here, and I am now a redhead. So psyched about my new haircolour!. I will be celebrating a friend´s birthday tonight and working tomorrow and Sunday, so this weekend will be a good mix of work and play.
I am getting more and more interested in fashion films and films that tell the story of people that have had something to do with the fashion industry after seeing Coco before Chanel.
Just saw a trailer for a new film today called About Face.
About Face is a documentary about models and age. The ever present pressure of looking young as a model.  The trailer looks promising and I will definitely add  this film to my list of must see fashion films.

Happy weekend you guys!!

three times the charm

Hey!

I'm back and finally have a little vacation around Christmas.  I have really been looking forward to the holiday season. For the next week or so leading up to Christmas I am going to enjoy not having to do anything at all except watch a bunch of christmas movies, bake and catch up with some friends I haven't seen in a while. As much as I love Christmas, I have to say my absolute favourite time of year is New Year´s Eve. There is just something about this one night, the last night of the year that is absolutely magical. I  even start planning my New Year´s before I even begin to think of Christmas ( seriously, I already have my outfit planned!).   These gorgeous dresses by Gucci are something I don´t think I could say no to for the New Year´s Eve festivities.

Camilla Belle

Evan Rachel Wood

Zoe Saldana

All three dresses are stunning! Gucci must be doing something right.
I have to say the first dress is my favourite.

Until next time

Music on a monday : Gotye

Hello everyone,

I might dissapear off the blog for the next week, studying like crazy for my final exam in chemistry but I promise to be back next week with some fun blog posts. For now I am going to post the usual monday song. This time it is  Gotye with  the song smoke and mirrors. I really like him, he reminds me of Peter Gabriel.

Have a great week everyone !

Simple things

I can´t believe it´s already December!
Incredible how time has flown by.  Here in Reykjavík we have the most perfect Christmas weather! White snow  that covers every surface and a lot of people have already put up Christmas lights. Downtown Reykjavík looks so beautiful  with lights everywhere and I can´t help but to get in a little bit of a Christmas- y mood.

Simple things making me happy this week :

  • Knowing that after Christmas finals comes Christmas vacation.  The last couple of weeks have been completely crazy with school assignments.  I am so happy that this is finally almost over. I can´t wait until I´ve finished my exams and have time to enjoy the holiday season. In my family we have tons of little traditions and little things we do together in December, that make the Christmas season extra special.

The main square in Reykjavík right before Christmas

  • Rediscovering my wardrobe  I am a bit of a shopaholic,  therefore I have a lot of clothes that tend to get "lost" in my closet. I love going through my closet and rediscovering things that I haven´t worn in a while and scoring a "new" outfit.

  • Hot chocolate  Winter being the perfect  time to snuggle up with a cup of something warm I have become a little obessed with trying different variations to the classic hot chocolate. peppermint cocoa anyone?

  • The Christmas fleamarket on Saturday at Hitt Húsið from 13 - 16. So for my Icelandic readers: be there! It should be fun

Have good weekend everyone

Hair

The cold finally beat me. I stayed home sick today as I had lost my voice when I woke up this morning and the pounding headache wasn´t really helping either. Otherwise I´m not complaining, it can be pretty cozy to sleep a little bit longer and actually  have some time to  finish school work ( or watch movies ).
For the past weeks  I´ve been thinking what I want to do with my hair. I´ve had the same cut and colour for a while now and I would like a change. I love red hair and it´s one hair colour I´ve always wanted to try.
The thing is I don´t want it to look fake, so I´ve gone through magazines and websites dedicated to haircare to try and find the right colour for me before I book an appointment with my hairdresser. I like all three below and Isla´s darkbrownish red would probably be the least risky change, but I have to say that Christina Hendrick´s hair colour is more what I had in mind.
Which one is your favourite?

should I go Florence red?

dark brownish red like Isla fischer?

or Christina Hendricks red?

you tell me what you think!

Music on a monday : Charlene Soraia - Wherever you will go

 Hey guys!

I had such a wonderful cozy weekend, and I hope you did too. Even managed to whip up a batch of chocolate chip cookies. The only downside might have to be that I came down with a pretty bad cold yesterday morning. This will have been the last weekend where I can allow myself to relax and do absolutely nothing so I am glad that it turn out how it did.  Now, my Christmas final is not far away, so all my free time up until then will probably be used for studying.
This is the perfect monday morning song. It was used in Tetley tea ads in Britain, I guess it´s because it makes  you feel all warm and happy - just like a cup of tea does.
Have a great week!

Until next time

Weekend!!!

Found this picture via the English muse blog.
So glad the weekend is finally here, although I can´t exactly say this has been a long week. My weekend will be dedicated to studying for my finals, staying in all day watching movies and pigging out on good food.
Happy weekend everyone !

Want it : Miu Miu platform Mary janes

Are these the most wonderful shoes ever or what?  Found these dreamy Miu Miu printed platform heels online the other day. I have now decided that this is the perfect shoe for me, I love everything about these!  The Mary Jane style and  the print, which makes them a little quirky.  And they look really comfy to walk in! I would love to pair these with a black dress and burgundy coloured tights to really let the shoes stand out. Unfortunatly the price tag is a little (just a tad) more than the budget of a student allows, so I will have to make due with daydreaming about these lovelies. Still, I heard that Forever 21 are selling a more budget friendly version of these shoes, too bad they don´t ship to Iceland.

Oh yes! I would wear these all the time, I´d even sleep in them

Until next time!

New favourite blog : English muse

Hello to whoever may still be reading this blog.
I haven´t been a very active blogger as of late ( and I know this is probably about the third time I make excuses for being a lousy blogger) but I promise I have a perfectly good excuse. School has been beyond crazy (Teachers decided to pile all the important assignments and projects into the last three weeks of the term, yay!) and basically a lot of stuff going on. I swear we need  an extra day in the week to be able to finish everything.
The other day I was browsing through a couple of blogs ( when I should have been studying) and found English muse
The blog is run by Tina,   a Los Angeles based blogger. She writes about books and  interior design among other things, but my absolute favourite part of the blog are the pretty pretty photos she posts on the blog!

I think these photos are so pretty and romantic!  Love them. I can sincerely reccomend you to check out this  wonderful blog.

Until next time

Simple things

Life is crazy right now, one month left of school and the assignments and projects keep stacking up. Here are a few things making  me happy this week and helping me keep sane:

Candles
tons and tons of candles

I´ve become just a little obsessed with scented candles, and I love the candles from Annick Goutal, a more affordable version of their  luxurious perfumes. Also to me, candles are a very important winter staple to brighten up dark and cosy evenings.

Frida Kahlo

I am doing a school project on her.  She is such an inspiration and her story is amazing , she lived a life filled with passion and suffering. I am amazed at her strength, her passion for life and her colourful character. One of the most fun school related writing I have done in a long time.

El día de los muertos

The mexican equivalent to Halloween. To be honest I find the Día de los muertos  much more interresting, because of what the tradition stands for. The mexicans throw a three day  festival  to commemorate the dead and celebrate life. I can imagine it could be fun to be a tourist in Mexico during el día de los muertos, think that´s something I would like to do.

My black, leopard  print collar coat

My best loved wardrobe item right now. Wear it everyday and it makes simple pants and a sweater feel so fancy! Mine is a bit different from the picture, a vintage coat I got for a bargain last spring. The collar comes a bit further down ( kind of like the lining has been turned up into a collar) no pouf at the shoulders and it has a bit more of an A line skirt to it

James Vincent McMorrow

His voice is amazing! I especially like his song We don´t eat. I love songs that feel like a big warm blanket and this is one of them.

Music on a monday : Norah Jones

Monday once again and sorry about my choice of words, but the weather here is really shitty. Woke up this morning to typical  monday morning weather  (we´re talking wind, rain, cold and really really dark. I swear there should be an extra day of weekend, just to be able to ease into a new week.)
Still there is an upside to this. Winter weather is the perfect excuse to just stay indoors, cosy up under tons and tons of blankets, with candles, a good book, listen to music and eat ice cream. The winter always gets me in a very cosy mindset and I hardly ever want to leave the house during the darkest and coldest winter months.
My choices in music this time of year is usually coloured by this.  I really like jazz music and during the winter it´s almost all I listen to.
Norah Jones  for example is a constant favourite of mine . Her songs are so beautiful and her voice is like a warm blanket, perfect for chasing away the winter blues.

So  this Halloween Monday I´m listening to this:

Have a great week everyone !

music on my mind + Halloween

Hi Guys

I  haven´t been very active here on the blog as of late. My excuse  is that the last two weeks have been completely crazy and hectic, in a good way!
I attended the Iceland Airwaves music festival ( also went to see a couple off venue gigs with my dad, he´s determined to join me next year). I had so much fun at Airwaves, indescribable. For me it´s almost as good as Christmas! I loved having so many of my friends there with me to enjoy the festival ( one of them even came specially from Denmark to attend the festival). I saw a lot of  my icelandic favourites performing and discovered new favourites. This is what I love about Iceland Airwaves! You are exposed to music you might not have discovered yourself in the first place!  And you get to meet new people from all over the world! After this years festival I  have a couple of new favourites on my everyday playlist and I can´t wait until next year!
Last thursday I went to see Peter Gabriels  NEW BLOOD concert (in fancy 3D cinema, with dad of course), so you could say that I´ve had a pretty musical couple of weeks, so much fun!
It's just amazing how quickly the time slips away, Im really beginning to understand how important it is to make the most of the time you have.
There are some exciting times ahead... a lot of fun stuff going on.

P.S.  I took a ton of pics at the music festival with a disposable camera ( drunk people + beer + expensive camera = disaster). I´ll have to wait and see how they turn out before I can post them, that is if they are any good.

On my mind right now :

Grilled cheese sandwiches : This is my cooking obsession these days ( along with baking savoury pies as they  are really great for the lunch box) and I have been testing different variations to this tried and true classic. For example I  tested out a grilled cheese with nutella spread, cream cheese and cinnamon yesterday , really really  yummy!
Check out Grilled cheese social for some delicious inspiration.

Corpse Bride ? No? too scary?

Halloween In spite of this being a very American holiday, it´s growing more popular each year here in Iceland. I actually saw pumpkins for carving at my local grocery store the other day- guess this will be a big thing here in a couple years . I just wish I´d started planning for a costume earlier, as I´ve got places to go and no costume. Any ideas for an original halloween costume?
As I am on a tight budget, I could just get a Hello, my name is.... sticker, wear normal clothes and write what Im supposed to be on the name tag. But I guess that doesn´t count as a costume.

Have a happy and safe halloween weekend everyone !

Paris in august

I finally managed to upload the rest of the Paris pictures on my computer(only took me 2 monrhs, yay for me!)  I took a few pictures in the centre of Paris , and of course of my favourite place in the world : the Latin quarter.

Just had to snap a photo of this sign that we found up on the wall in a parking garage- let me tell you, I could´ve gone without the parfum du jour!

Love love love this place " Patisserie du sud tunisien" is a small tunisian bakery in the latin quarter. They display everything in the windows and sell, among other amazing pastries: baklava and honey cake(dripping with gooey sirup) YUM!

As you can see they have a great selection of yummy things!

Almost sunset by the Notre Dame

I like this photo - the last light is kind of crooked, it´s charming.

Street performers in front of Notre Dame, they were pretty good

Eiffel tower at nighttime

I love Paris and everytime I leave I can´t wait to come back. Such a wonderful place.

Simple things

The change in weather between summer and winter here in Iceland can be pretty dramatic, which can affect ones mood. It can be difficult adjusting to the seemingly non stop darkness (seriously, during the winter we hardly even see the sun) after a summer of 24/7 daylight. So now that winter is upon us I feel it´s really important to focus on the little things that bring happiness, because I am only human and the winter weather can of course get to me like everyone else.
Here is my remedy for the winter blues this week:

Excitement for Iceland Airwaves

I can´t believe  Airwaves is only one week away!! good times good times

Good coffee

There are few things in this world better than starting off the day with a great cup of coffee, especially when it  is dark as night outside at 8 am. I love that I can get a great cup of take away coffee from Kaffitár, while waiting to change buses on the way to school. And it is even more lovely to sit down at bookstore/ café Eymundsson, and have time to flip through the latest magazines, for free!
Either way coffee always brightens my mood.

Photography

My camera has been on a very long vacation  up until a few weeks ago when I realised how much I miss taking photos. I really like being able to document special events and fun with friends. I used go downtown in the afternoon with my camera and snap pictures of everything and anything! I have to start doing that again ( and I might even show you the results)

My awesome camera - Nikon D60

Of Monsters and men's new album - My head is an animal

I instantly feel good  listening to this  ( and walk around for the rest of the day with a big stupid grin on my face). It´s really amazing how music can affect your mood.

Baking and discovering new recipes.

I rarely cook or bake during the summer ( unless it´s something really really quick). So when winter comes around so does my favourite hobby. I don´t know what it is, why I only  do it during the winter, I guess it´s comforting, and I love the sense of achievement when you bake something from scratch that turns out great.
Might do a few kitchen posts this winter, will keep you posted

vegetable quiche and chocolate chip brasil nut cookies I baked yesterday.

I took a longer break from the blog than I had planned , thank you so much for baring with me.

P.S. what makes you guys happy in the winter?
