Adventures in travel

Hey guys,
I hope everyone had a great weekend. I did, had an amazing Saturday night with friends. I made the snickers bars ( posted the recipe last friday). Very yummy but very messy so I didn´t take any photos. We put them in the freezer and they turned into tasty snickers ice cream bars.
I have a crazy week of school work ahead of me, a lot to do and very little time.  Still there is light at the end of the tunnel, I am very excited about my trip to Ireland next march! Just booked the hostel last week and I couldn´t be more excited! It´s been a while since I´ve been somewhere new and I love travelling above everything else in life, especially when I get to visit a new country.
This is extra exciting for me because I have dreamt of going to Ireland for some time now.
Threw in some travel themed photos I´ve collected from here and there throughout the web.

Foodie Friday: homemade snickers bars

Hey guys,

My friend posted this recipe on Facebook a couple weeks ago, and since I am a big fan of Snickers I am obligated to try these. Judging by the photos they are seriously yummy, with  layers of nougat and caramel. I am going to make these this afternoon and serve them at our housewarming party tomorrow night. Will post pictures.

Have a great weekend!

Copenhagen

 Hey guys,

I took a little trip to Denmark earlier this month  to visit some friends. It was nice to be able to get away (even if it was just a long weekend) after a jam packed summer full of work. I was travelling with another friend and we had a lot of fun checking out the nightlife, eating good food and of course, shopping! I finally managed to upload the pictures (silly me, I lost the camera cable and only after buying a card reader I discovered that my laptop has a built in card reader.... oh well) and you can expect more photo posts in the near future.

Took this photo on the first night. A library in downtown Copenhagen

Yep that´s me, burgundy overload lady. I can see a theme here: burgundy and blue

On the last day we visited Torvehallerne, which is a big indoor market with food (my heaven), all kinds of handmade products like candles and soaps. A wonderful way to end the trip as I know nothing better than on a weekend than a food market/farmer´s market.
That´s one of the reasons I love visiting my family in France: every weekend there is a farmer´s market.

There was a small cupcake bakery/café with beautiful cupcakes in all kinds of flavours.

Dried fruit and nut

This booth sold french confections - my favourite being their cellophane wrapped wedges of nougat, in different kinds of flavours.

Charcuterie - this guy was selling salami, patés and various meat products

My favourite booth - they had a lot of french cheeses that you can´t find in Iceland ( No un pasteurized cheeses allowed into the country)

A gourmet cheese stand

I had such a wonderful time, and I only wish I could have stayed longer and taken more pictures.
My camera memory chip filled up with pictures and unfortunatly I didn´t have a backup.
Copenhagen is a wonderful place to visit, there is so much going on there and many exciting places to see.
I  will post my favourite places in Copenhagen soon!

Airwaves

Hey guys,

My favourite event of the year is coming up!
Iceland Airwaves starts in less than a month, October 31st to the 4th of November the streets of Reykjavík will once again be filled with music lovers, artists, photographers and journalists alike.I really love the unique atmosphere the festival brings with it. To me this is (almost) more exciting than Christmas. Last year I did a countdown, a series of posts where I introduced you guys to some interesting artists coming to play at the festival. I am going to try to do something similar this year.
The first artist that I really look forward to seeing live is native Ásgeir Trausti. He is twenty year old and sings in icelandic.Ásgeir is quite knew to the scene here in Iceland, if I remember correctly he was discovered just last winter and already he has become wildly popular among Icelanders. His first album was released in september and sold out very quickly. He is a must see for me at the festival because I really enjoy his soothing, calm voice and  his songs are very beautiful. Here below is one of  his song Dýrð í dauðaþögn (Glory in silence). Make sure you also check out my favourite song,  Leyndarmál.

How many of you are going to Airwaves this year?

Shakespeare shoes

Hey guys,
Found these shoes while imaginary shopping at topshop.com.
I think they are really pretty and it doesn´t hurt that they are named after
one of my all time favourite writers, William Shakespeare.

                                                 Which ones are your favourite?
                                                  I don´t think I can choose!!

Weekend road trip - part 1

Hi guys ,

Last weekend we took a little road trip to Grindavík, a little fishing town about 45 minutes from Reykjavík. Every fall the family  goes to watch as the farmers round up their sheep. The sheep in Iceland run free during the whole summer and in the fall they are rounded up and brought in for the winter.

Unfortunatly the roundup was postponed until the next day and we didn´t know until we were already there. So we decided to come back the next day. Instead we took a little roadtrip along the coast of  the Reykjanes peninsula. There are a lot of interesting things to see, for example the bridge between two continents (North America and Eurasia) and Gunnuhver, which is a geothermal hot spot. Gunnuhver received it´s name from an old folk tale, it is supposedly named after an evil woman, Gunna that was terrorising the locals, so she was lured to the hot spring, where she drowned. According to the tale her ghost can be seen roaming around the hot spring, hence the name Gunnuhver.
I love the fact that you don´t have to drive a long way out of the city to see some interesting places and get into nature. It´s one of my favourite things about this country.
I will post the second half of the pictures (from the roundup) later this week.
