Music on a Monday: Lighthouse

This song is like a warm blanket, so light and fluffy but still it is full of emotion.
Perfect for a cold windy autumn day. Just add a hot cup of tea/ coffee.

I hope you have a great week!

Music on a monday Jessie Ware

Hey guys,

This song has been keeping me relatively sane during exam season. I can only study while listening to music, or at least I feel that helps me. So Jessie´s upbeat sound has been on repeat for the past few days to motivate me and thanks to her exam prep is going pretty well!

Have a great week

Music on a Monday: Beautiful girls

Hi guys,

This Monday song is from my playlist of relaxing songs. A playlist I listen to when it all becomes to much and I just need a moment to regroup. Music affects my mood and my feelings immensely and I have learnt to use that to my advantage.  I hope you enjoy this song as well.

Happy Monday!

Music on a Monday: Phillip Phillips

Hi guys,
I love the most recent winner of American Idol, Phillip Phillips. I followed his journey to the win from his first audition. He has such a special voice which is wonderful to listen to and I think he has done extremely well on his first album. Here is one of my favorite songs of his: Hold on.

Have a great week!

Music on a Monday: Tom Waits

Hi guys

I grew up around all kinds of music, and music(or musical education as my father calls it) was a big part of my upbringing. Now I don´t mean learning to play instruments, but learning to appreciate music. This is probably the reason that my musical tastes are as diverse as they are, I love everything from old school rock to jazz to blues to rap and I am very open minded about new kinds of music. But part of that was teaching me to appreciate truly talented and creative artists. One of those, and one that always stood out for me is Tom Waits. I really like his rough whiskey voice, the lyrics to his songs are original and witty and the music is so soulful that it give chills right in to the bone. This is one of my favorite songs of his. Enjoy!

Have a great week!

Music on a monday - Yael Naim

Hey guys,
So school finally started again today. Although I had a lot of fun during the holidays, I am more than thrilled to get back into my routine and to face new challenges (being on holiday for a month, kind of wrecks havoc on any kind of structure in my life). I found this beautiful rendition of the Britney Spears song Toxic the other day. In my opinion it´s even better than the original. Such a soulful performance.

Happy Monday

Monday

 Hey guys
So Iceland Airwaves 2012 is officially over (have to say I am a little bummed out, this year´s festival passed too quickly). I had so much fun, happy I got to see some of my favourite artists perform as well as discovering a few new favourites. This is the third time I have attended the festival and I haven´t been dissapointed yet. Definitely going next year!!

All in all it has been a great weekend - and the cherry on top is this wonderful coat from H&M my parents got me from their trip to Boston. I love the black and blue faux fur collar. Been wearing it everyday since I got it.

I hope you all have a great week

Airwaves

Hey guys!

Airwaves is less than one week away!!  Starting to feel the butterflies in my stomach. This is (almost) better than Christmas.  What I love about his festival is that you get to discover new icelandic bands (or bands you didn´t know about yet) as well as all the great foreign artists that participate. 1860 is one of my must see bands this year. They are an icelandic band and their songs give me the chills everytime I listen to them. For those of you that don´t have a bracelet to the festival,  check out the Iceland Airwaves off venue program, I think they will be playing a couple of venues.

I would love to get some comments from you guys, are any of you going to Airwaves? what are your must see artists?

Happy Thursday!

I love this song from the new album Ceremonials by Florence and the machine:

I have been listening to the new album non-stop since I got it Sunday. It helps make the homework a little less boring.

Once again, I would love for you guys to leave me some comments and to follow me on bloglovin!

music on my mind + Halloween

Hi Guys

I  haven´t been very active here on the blog as of late. My excuse  is that the last two weeks have been completely crazy and hectic, in a good way!
I attended the Iceland Airwaves music festival ( also went to see a couple off venue gigs with my dad, he´s determined to join me next year). I had so much fun at Airwaves, indescribable. For me it´s almost as good as Christmas! I loved having so many of my friends there with me to enjoy the festival ( one of them even came specially from Denmark to attend the festival). I saw a lot of  my icelandic favourites performing and discovered new favourites. This is what I love about Iceland Airwaves! You are exposed to music you might not have discovered yourself in the first place!  And you get to meet new people from all over the world! After this years festival I  have a couple of new favourites on my everyday playlist and I can´t wait until next year!
Last thursday I went to see Peter Gabriels  NEW BLOOD concert (in fancy 3D cinema, with dad of course), so you could say that I´ve had a pretty musical couple of weeks, so much fun!
It's just amazing how quickly the time slips away, Im really beginning to understand how important it is to make the most of the time you have.
There are some exciting times ahead... a lot of fun stuff going on.

P.S.  I took a ton of pics at the music festival with a disposable camera ( drunk people + beer + expensive camera = disaster). I´ll have to wait and see how they turn out before I can post them, that is if they are any good.

On my mind right now :

Grilled cheese sandwiches : This is my cooking obsession these days ( along with baking savoury pies as they  are really great for the lunch box) and I have been testing different variations to this tried and true classic. For example I  tested out a grilled cheese with nutella spread, cream cheese and cinnamon yesterday , really really  yummy!
Check out Grilled cheese social for some delicious inspiration.

Corpse Bride ? No? too scary?

Halloween In spite of this being a very American holiday, it´s growing more popular each year here in Iceland. I actually saw pumpkins for carving at my local grocery store the other day- guess this will be a big thing here in a couple years . I just wish I´d started planning for a costume earlier, as I´ve got places to go and no costume. Any ideas for an original halloween costume?
As I am on a tight budget, I could just get a Hello, my name is.... sticker, wear normal clothes and write what Im supposed to be on the name tag. But I guess that doesn´t count as a costume.

Have a happy and safe halloween weekend everyone !

Sunday in the rain

Fall has definitely arrived here in Iceland. At least the weather is giving us a reminder of what is to come.
I woke up this morning to the sound of the strong wind and the rain hitting my windows, and it really feels like the first fall day, weather wise.
The best thing about this kind of weather is when you don´t have to go outside.  Just being able to spend the whole day indoors, curling  up with a book and some music,  or watching  a movie.  I usually use these kind of days to do things I feel less motivated to do when the weather is nice, like cleaning out old things that do nothing but take up much needed space.
But my absolute favourite thing to do when the weather is like this is to bake, even though I don´t do it nearly as often as I´d like to.
I find it very calming, not having to focus on anything other than the recipe and the baking process.
And  doesn´t  it make things just a little more special to have a freshly baked cake and a hot drink to go along with your book or movie ? I think so.

the perfect rainy day song
A cover of the Arcade Fire song Rebellion sung by Benjamin  Francis Leftwich ( he´s coming to Iceland Airwaves! can´t wait!)

I hope everyone has a great week

ciao
