Caspar David Friedrich

Hi guys,
While in high school I took a couple classes in art history.
I have always been a great admirer of art and learning more about some of my favorite works of art sparked my interest in learning more. One of my favorite artists  is Caspar David Friedrich. Something in his dark works of art spoke to me when I was younger. Here are some of my favorite paintings of his ....

Have a great day

Paris...

Oh Paris!
I´m researching places to do an exchange semester next year and keep coming back to the same place. Paris,my absolute favorite place in the entire world. There are few other places in the world where I feel as inspired, happy and peaceful.  The city of love. The city of good food and fashion. I never ever tire of Paris, I wish I would never have to leave. I would love to spend the rest of my days (or at least a couple months) taking strolls through the city with a café au lait and a croissant in hand, going to the Louvre every weekend and hanging out at jazz clubs.

I miss the macarons. You can get good macarons here in Iceland but there is nothing like the real thing .....

I miss the amazing bread. The bread at Sandholt bakery here in Reykjavík is a close second.

The cheeses. Cheese is one of my favourite foods, especially french cheeses, the goat´s cheese, Fourme D´ambert, brie......Oh mon dieu!!

I miss the wonderful atmosphere, which is only to be found in my beloved Paris, the comfort I get from walking through the exhibits at the Louvre in peace and quiet. Finally I really, really miss my wonderful family and I am hoping to see them this summer. I dream away to Paris at least once a day, there are so many wonderful things there and I have so many wonderful memories bound to Paris. Paris mon amour.

Oh my! I think it might be time to take a look at flights!
I regularly read the Cherry blossom girl blog, she is a french blogger and the other day I saw a photo of her wearing this suit:

It´s a Paris suit! The print is a street map of the city. I absolutely must have it! Then I can wear my heart on my sleeve, for real. Unfortunately it´s a little bit outside my budget.

Guess I´d better start saving up!!

Have a great day

Want it! Need it!

Hi guys,
I need this clutch bag in my life! Like yesterday! Preferably all of them! At least the Romeo and Juliet one, and the Great Gatsby,and.....okay this is impossible. I´m just going to have to get all of them! I already have a book clutch bag, that I bought from ASOS, but these  from Kate Spade are just so much nicer.

The great Gatsby

Pride and prejudice

Romeo and Juliet

There are more titles available from Kate Spade, but these are my absolute favorite. I´ve also found more budget friendly alternatives on etsy, if you are interested in that.
I am such a Shakespeare fan and I love Romeo and Juliet so I would really love to have the Romeo and juliet clutch
A girl can dream ....

Inspiration: Frida Kahlo

Hey guys,
Frida Kahlo is one of my biggest inspirations in life, and on so many levels. Her art, her style, her story. I did my final essay in an arts history class on Frida Kahlo and I really enjoyed learning about her, she was such an extraordinary woman. Frida lived a life filled with pain and suffering, which would have caused many to give up, but always kept going. I really enjoy her work, her paintings are drenched with emotion and you can really see the pain, suffering, sadness and all the heartbreak represented in her work. A critic once noted that Frida´s paintings were like her personal diary, which I guess could be right since her paintings largely portray her life and her state of mind.
It has just been announced that the Frida Kahlo museum (which is in the house where she lived, the Casa Azul) are planning an exhibition, showing a collection of Frida´s clothing(among other things). I guess I´ll have to go to mexico then!

Have a great weekend

Resolutions

Hey guys,

I have never been very good at following through with New years resolutions. On New Year´s Eve I get very motivated and inspired but nothing really ever happens after that. Then I spent a considerably large amount of time feeling guilty, when I realize I wont be able to cross everything off my list before the year ends. I read a blog post over at one of my favorite blogs, Cupcakes and cashmere that touches on this subject. There Emily writes about her own resolutions and how New Year´s resolutions don´t have to be huge, seemingly inachievable ones. Sometimes   it´s better to focus on the little things that count and lead you along the path to reaching the big goals. After all isn´t  beauty in the details? I think that those who truly enjoy life, are those that find happiness in the little things of everyday life. Therefore my New Year´s resolution is to enjoy the little things, be more positive and to make an effort to be truly happy.

Here are some the things I plan on doing to enrich my life before the year´s end:

  • Go to the theater more often.
  • Fill a jar with with written notes, about one good thing that happens each day of this year.
  • Read more books
  • Spend more time with my mom
  • Spend quality time with my friends and family
  • Take salsa dancing lessons
  • Visit friends that live abroad
  • Exercise more frequently
  • Get better at speaking french
  • Talk more often with my family in France
  • Skype with friends that live abroad
  • Bake more(need to try all those recipe books I have at some point)
  • Take more photos
  • Have friends over more often
  • Plan dinner parties
.....And then I will add more little things that make me happy as time goes along. I have some big resolutions as well but I will let this be a start and share them with you later. Baby steps.

Have a great day!
